This module has helped me think about using standards, CFQs or formative assessment in the following ways:

  1. How to create lessons that focus on CSO's, How to formulate unit questions to concentrate on the focused CSO's, How to use formative assessment to guide lessons.

  2. It was good to read over the CSO's again, especially through the 21st century list. It was great to see that my idea for my project touched on so many CSO's in many subjects. The wording in the CSO's will also help me to formulate assessments and work through a backward design.

  4. Standards are needed to make sure your students are learning information that is relevant.

  5. Using formative assessment is critical in guiding students through the lessons and to the end product. Being involved with students through the process helps the teacher learn about student needs and thoughts. This module has also reminded me to start with the "big picture" and work to that end.

  6. I think that using the CSO's in my project will be good for everyone in the classes. It will help them understand how the two, music and math are related to each other. Even the ones who claim they don't know anything about Math can learn how to do the fractions.

  7. CSO's are an important guide in forming any lessons. The Intel site gives good guidance on using the CSO's to focus the essentials parts of the lesson.

  9. This will remind one that there are many and variable types of assessment and one may enjoy using any one or combination of such. As we are required to base our lesson plans on the Course of Study, this reinforces good pedagogical practices.

  12. We can do more than just a paper and pencil assessments. Such assessments might include rubrics, GOs, journals, or projects. We can assess students as we go along to continually monitor their progress. Teachers can also use the assessments to determine whether to move on or reteach.

  13. I need to be sure that I use the backward design when formulating my unit plan. Be sure that the project is standard driven. It has also made me think about how important formative assessments are when you're working through a unit. It doesn't always have to be a paper/pencil test. There are many ways to assess!

  14. The CSO's should be the guide to creating lesson plan. Sometimes, several CSO's may be covered in the same lesson. Assessments should be ongoing.

  15. It has reminded me of what I already knew, but sometimes fail to do. We tend to fall into a routine of doing things the same way every time. It got me to thinking of other ways to present material, and to do assessment. I also liked the way that the essential questions help you to direct your lesson plans to meet your objectives, not just meet standards. It pulls the unit together.

  16. Using the standards ensures that I am following the curriculum guidlines that the State says I need to in my classroom.
